Going from Pain to Purpose: Endometriosis Awareness Advocate

April 1, 2017

Dealing with Endometriosis

Michelle N. Johnson, Wellness Educator

Endometriosis Advocate

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. Each year millions of women and girls are impacted by this debilitating disease.  Over 176 million women are fighting a silent war that is upending their lives. It crosses ethnicity/race, age and socio-economic levels.  Endometriosis is hard to detect and often misdiagnosed.

Listen to our interview as she shares insights and strategies to effectively deal with Endometriosis. In the U.S. on average, it takes 10 years from symptom onset to receive an accurate diagnosis of endometriosis.

Some of the top symptoms include:

  1. Severe bleeding during your period (like hemorrhaging)
  2. Lower back and abdominal pain
  3. Vomiting, nausea, and headaches
  4. Prevents you from getting out of bed or doing daily activities

It hits women in the prime of their reproductive lives and impacts women and girls from age 12 to age 60. The symptoms mimic other conditions.

Michelle N. Johnson turned the pain she endured from this disease into a purpose to educate others.

As a Licensed Massage Therapist, and Wellness Educator for over 10 years, Michelle N. Johnson fights fiercely to educate, enlighten and empower individuals to become proactive participants in their health and wellness management.

She brings awareness every March to the plight of those with Endometriosis through her annual Fighting Fiercely © educational campaign and expo.  She is a member of the Endometriosis Association, and author of the Endometriosis resource guide: Fighting Fiercely: Unveiling the Unknown about Endometriosis in June of 2015. She states, “I give women a roadmap for what the next steps should be after diagnosis. I share in-depth research on treatment options and make recommendations for specialists.”

Heart Health: Part 1 Guard Your Heart Against Bitterness

February 4, 2016
Heart Health Month
Angeline Lawrence
 Host Shine & Grind Podcast

February is Heart Health Month. According to #Go Red for Women, heart disease is the number killer of women in American. The website, www.Goredforwomen.org states that 1 in 3 women die from heart disease a year. During this month’s episode we will discuss the health of our spirit (inner man), physical and mental well-being.

We start off with a discussion on rooting out bitterness.  Life can kick us in the gut at times, but we must learn how to recover without allowing the seeds of resentment to plant itself within the foundation of our spirits. Hebrews 12:15 states, “looking carefully least anyone fall short of the grace of God; least any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;” (New Kings James Version)

True resilience is the ability to endure tough times without it changing the core of who you are in a negative way.  Our struggles should make us stronger, not weaken us.

Key takeaways include:

·         Never internalize personal attacks

·         Learn instantaneous forgiveness

·         Acknowledge your pain and embrace it

·         Confess your feelings to God

·         Praising God is fuel to recharge your spirit

·         We strive to produce the Godly behaviors of the Spirit

It is urgent that we position ourselves to bring forth the positive behaviors of the Spirit, such as kindness, patience, longsuffering, forbearance and peace. Our walk with God is a lifetime commitment. Preparation includes our total being to successfully run a marathon of faith. We will get a reward that is priceless.
